The U.S. faces a predicted shortfall of between 37,800 and 124,000 doctors over the next 10 years. While physician shortages will affect nearly every specialty, primary care, pediatrics, and psychiatry will suffer the most. The shortages will make it even more challenging to provide care to a growing population, particularly in underserved areas. Don't believe me? The country's nursing shortage is just as bad as its doctor deficit and patient safety is already at risk as a result.
